The second edition of the Tata Volunteering Week (TVW)
was launched today morning, at the Auditorium in Bombay House. The event saw
enthusiastic participation, not only from employees but also their family
members as well as retired employees. The launch started with an inspiring video
titled ‘Touching Lives’, which showcased the spirit of volunteering within the
Tata Group from early days with glimpses of veterans like Lady Meherbai Tata,
JRD Tata and Thelma Tata engaging with the community. This was followed by an
address by Mr. Shankar Venkateswaran, Chief - Tata Sustainability Group, who
formally welcomed family members and retired employees to be a part of Tata
Volunteering Week II (TVWII).
Members of the audience were then requested to share their volunteering experiences, which saw a spirited response and elicited a lot of inspiring and unique anecdotes from the speakers. Mrs. Geetha Gopalakrishnan, Honorary Director for Donor Relationships at Tata Medical Center, mentioned how volunteering has made miracles happen in her life. Mr Mohan Ranade a retired employee from Tata Motors spoke about the immense satisfaction one gets by volunteering and how the giver benefits more than the receiver. Ms. Zoha Karmali from Corporate Sustainability, Indian Hotels thanked Tata Engage for serving as a platform for Tata companies to collaborate and providing an insight into community initiatives and engagements throughout the group. For the benefit of family members and retired employees present, a quick glimpse of the Tata Engage website was provided to familiarize them with the process of registering as a volunteer and participating in activities.
The launch concluded with a look at the key volunteering activities of TVWI and the audience signing their names on a Tata Engage pledge wall to commemorate their presence on this special occasion and show their commitment to volunteering.
