Garbage was piled up for over a week in the area where I reside, on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi. Hence I contacted BMC Executive Engineer of the Central Agency responsible for garbage collection. He immediately directed the concerned BMC staff to take action. Thereafter I was in touch with him continually via phone/sms till late that night and also the next morning to check whether the work was completed. Finally the garbage van arrived at the spot on Ganesh Chaturthi day at 11am for garbage clearance. Two truck loads of garbage got collected under my supervision. The work took well over two hours. The area looked clean after the work was finished. Photos attached. It was a fitting welcome for Lord Ganesha idols which were arriving at the same time for installation. Thereafter I saw to it that garbage got cleared each day. I have since observed that the garbage is being cleared thrice daily by BMC till date. Today is the 6th day of Tata Volunteering week.

Program Theme: “ROADSIDE HEROES – Unlocking the Real Side” Charity begins at home……as quoted by Mother Teresa……with a belief in this Quote…We at "TATA Consulting Engineers – Bangalore", marched ahead to start the TATA Engage Volunteering activity at our Office Premise, Bangalore. Using TATA Engage as a ‘Key’, we unlocked the “Real Side of Roadside Heroes” …… the Construction Workers working for road construction. We found, these Construction Workers including, men, women and children, who are at present working for a road construction beside our office premise are deprived of proper clothing and need smile at a go. The Program was intended to give human touch to these Roadside Heroes. It involved spending some time with them, providing lunch to the Workers, their family members, as well as distributing chocolates & pullovers for kids; and sarees for women. The activity ingrained many beautiful feelings like value for love, family, respect for food and being happy in whatever one has……..along with a sense of self respect of being a "Roadside Hero".

Visit to SOFOSH by TCS Maitee, Pune SOFOSH ( Society Of Friends of Sasoon Hospital) is a charitable organisation started by friends of Sasoon hospital. We spent sometime with the children who were involved in a leisurely activity. The kids craved to sit on our laps. All the kids wanted individual and undivided attention from us. At lunch, they were given chapathi, sabzi and chutney to eat. The younger children were fed. Luckily, we got a chance to see an adoption ceremony of a child by a family. After all the adoption formalities are complete, the child was handed over to the family by a small ceremony. All the family members were in tears when the staff blessed the child.
