We're back with an ever-more exciting ninth edition with over 250+ projects on offer!
You can use your skills to help NGOs meet their capacity and capability gaps to achieve their goals.
It is said that, if you want to learn more, increase your appetite for the same and come out of your comfort zone. ProEngage projects require you to involve yourself during your non-official hours like in the evenings and/or weekends. So, this keeps you busy and simultaneously satisfies your appetite. If you look at the other side of the coin, a ProEngage project gives you a platform to help organisations that are unable to meet their goals due to lack of skilled man-power. Thus, ProEngage is a win-win for the volunteers to grow personally as well as help the social organisations in need.
Though my association with ProEngage has only been for a year so far, I trust that two of my projects have created an impact on not just the NGO and its members, but also on us. My co-volunteer and I, we have shared a cordial relationship and have contributed by means of idea generation and implementation for meeting the statutory requirements and compliances of the business, enhancing their sales and revenue, and giving wings to the aspirations of rural women linked with the NGO. In return, we have learnt how to develop long-lasting relations and appreciate the ebb and flow of life.
My ProEngage project required me to develop a landscape for a hospital. I participated along with my brother, a horticulturist. During this project, I met the doctors and the workers who are providing the health facilities to the grassroots. This place is in a remote area of Thane district so it was great learning experience for me to see how people are working for the community and helping each other. Definitely this has helped me to grow as a person and to see the world with a clear vision.
A ProEngage Project is the best utilisation of our free time on a weekend. I teach MS-Excel/MS-Office at Lila Poonawala Foundation. As part of my project, I interact with students and see their unique ways of solving problems. These interactions have connected me back to my learning days and I have started to modify my ways of tackling work projects. Since I have working knowledge of these applications, my sessions talk of real world scenarios and examples. The students find the sessions interesting since they are not purely theoretical and are delivered by experienced professionals.
Doing daily chores and fulfilling self & family needs is a basic responsibility of every person. But, when we look beyond that, there are so many other people/families who are underprivileged financially or socially. ProEngage connects you to them. I have been volunteering through ProEngage for last 3 years. I have worked with Okhai & Rhizome and helped in increasing the sale of their products. I think all NGOs are capable of working by themselves, but all they need is to connect missing links which sometimes are hidden for them. Being a volunteer with expertise in the area, we help them connect those missing links so that their projects can move forward.
As part of my ongoing project with ETASHA, we are training and helping youth from low income backgrounds to crack interviews and get employment. There is lot of role play of mock interviews. While this helps them get a job, it also helps me in understanding their side of the story and improving the gaps in our process. The millennials and Gen Z are critical workforce filled with energy, which needs to be channelized with engagement. I have implemented few engagement activities to reduce attrition at my workplace, there is lot to learn and contribute cordially.
