Wildlife habitat conservation
Tata Chemicals | Mithapur
The coastal wilderness around Mithapur provides habitat for wildlife species like
the Indian Pangolin, hedgehog, hare, jackals, hyena and a host of raptors, many
of which are migratory. The endangered Houbara Bustards have been recorded here
and the coast provides nesting grounds for endangered Green turtles. A major threat
for the wildlife here is the rampant spread of an exotic weed known as "Prosopis
juliflora". Wild herbivores often feed on seed pods of this weed and aid its spread
through their droppings. TCL employees, family members and retired employees have
launched a drive to check this exotic weed. A drive for collection of Neelgai (Indian
Blue Bull) droppings from coastal wilderness was organised. This program shall continue
for the next couple of days to help conservation of Mithapur wilderness for the
endangered wildlife.
