Tata Communications volunteers from Paris collected food items and donated it to
the representatives of LES RESTOS DU COEUR an (NGO) working for homeless people
in need in Paris. The collected food was equivalent to 15000 weekly meals which
will be served to the underprivileged and homeless people and young babies. Volunteers
also collected clothes and toys and donated it to Red Cross for the use of needy
individuals.

Homeless people suffer through cold, neglect and discomfort without a place which
they can call home. St Mungo’s, a London based NGO extends support to the less fortunate
people with relevant skills that can enhance their lives. With the intent to support
such people to avail a decent life, team of volunteers from Tata Communications
London assisted St Mungo’s volunteers at their support centres with some gardening
activities, planting, chopping, building and much more. Volunteers also joined hands
to give back to the local community by brightening green spaces in a local housing
estate.

in a nearby village. They also spent time with the children.

Awareness on health and sanitation

Tata Projects, Hyderabad created awareness on safe drinking water, health and clean
sanitation in the RO plants installed in the village. This program helped in creating
awareness to the rural community who are totally unaware of safe drinking water
related to health and clean sanitation. Volunteers took door to door feedback from
the beneficiaries in the prescribed format on the utilization of RO purified water
related to any health issues.

Animal rescue

Due to sewer construction work near the hotel, contractors left a sewer open and
in the night a dog fell in it. The security guard noticed it and informed the front
desk. After multiple attempts. the municipality department and the animal rescuers
did not respond. 4 volunteers took the initiative. With the help of a ladder and
rope they pulled the dog out of the sewer and saved his life.

A skill development program to promote employability of local girls was organized
at the Learning & Development Centre, Tata Sponge township. The orientation program
intended to mobilize eligible girls to opt for Industrial Sewing Machine Operators
training at Bhubaneswar. Around 50 girls from the locality participated in the program.

A Team of 28 Volunteers from Tata Projects organized a cleanliness and tree plantation
drive at Medchal R.O plant unit. Volunteers cleaned the whole RO plant unit, few
of the volunteers picked the brooms sticks and started the dusting of the surroundings
and started picking wrappers scattered there after collecting and threw them into
the dustbins. They planted 50 seasonal fruit trees and flowers in the surrounding
areas of RO unit.

showed them painted diyas in diverse colors on laptop to get an idea on the colors

Tata Realty and Infrastructure conducted a blood donation drive at Backbay Sarvajanik
Ganeshostav Mandal, Churchgate. Doctors from KEM Hospital attended to the donors.
In all 20 units of blood was collected during this drive. This hospital run by the
Mumbai Municipal Corporation has a daily requirement of 150 to 200 units of blood
which is mainly used to support Thalassemia affected children (350 children currently)
as well as for all other types of super-speciality treatment and operations done
at the hospital for needy and poor patients.

Tata Chemicals in partnership with Covenant Centre For Development (NGO) organized
“Traditional Food Festival” in Kiloy village (Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu) with an
objective to create awareness on nutritional value available in locally available
fruits, vegetable and grains. During the camp, there was participation by 38 women
and 20 students of the village. The participants were made aware of the importance
of millets and traditional foods for healthy living. TCL also organized a competition
for preparing the best healthy food. 7 TCL volunteers helped in organizing the camp
and evaluating the traditional foods prepared by the participants. The participants
also explained the process of preparing healthy food to the visitors from the village.
Three participants were recognized for preparing best low cost healthy foods. The
participants cooked 100 years old recipe called ‘Ulai Appam’, Chimbili made up of
sesame, Jaggery and groundnut (laddu), raagi Athirasam, Varagu murukku (Millet snacks),
herbal dosas (Sweet Samosa), Ragi Adai, snake gourd curry, etc.

Helping a person in need

An officer of Tata Metaliks saw a person lying on the roadside with several wounds
on his body. The volunteer gave money to the owner of a nearby hotel to provide
food. He approached the Manager –CSR and sought help to get him admitted in Missionaries
of Charity, Kharagpur, West Bengal. After getting police clearance, he was admitted
in Missionaries of Charity brothers home. Doctors examined him and found that patient
is suffering from a disability and dog bites on the legs. The treatment was started
by the doctors and now his health condition is improving.

cleared by the medical team and donated one unit blood each to Assam Medical College
Blood Bank for poor patients who are unable to afford proper blood supply in the
Assam Medical College Hospital and required blood transfusion.

and volunteers from CSR Department gave special training to the athletes of the

to be taken to remain physically fit. Students were also guided on physical exercises
and warm ups to remain focused, to participate in District, State & National Level
Sports program.

program for the children as well as the mothers of SOS Children village. At first,
the volunteers conducted one minute competition for the mothers on various activities
which was followed by the prize distribution to the winners. Thereafter, clay modelling
session was also conducted for the children where they were divided into groups
and were given clay. Children showed several types of creative things made up of
clay. At last, the program concluded with the distribution of goodies to all the
children and their mothers.

The associates at TCS Lucknow, took sessions at Poorva Madhyamik Vidhyalaya Saraiya
(Government School) under the Tata Volunteering Week 8 initiative under Purpose4Life
activities. The main objective was to empower the underprivileged kids studying
in a few sections of Classes VIIth and VIIIth of this school with knowledge of basics
of computer. This was important because there was no computer in the School. It
also aimed at building their basic conversational skills through soft skills session
for the other sections of classes VIIth and VIIIth. The volunteers also honed the
creative skills of the students of class VIth through the craft workshop which was
based on Paper Quilling. These initiatives hailed as a tremendous success as was
evident from an overwhelming response of the students. It enabled them to bridge
the gap between creativity, personality and technology and to match up to the pace
of recent times.

TCS Lucknow conducted a session on “Save the Environment” (through Tata Volunteering
Week -8 Initiative under Purpose4Life activities) for the students of classes IVth
& Vth at Prathmik Vidhyalaya (a Government School) in Saraiya, Lucknow. They introduced
them to pressing issues of Global Warming, Green House Effect, Deforestation and
all sorts of pollution. They educated them on how to contribute towards protecting
nature and facilitating change.

Prerna Girls School is a high school for underprivileged girls and is a Maitree
- CS partner at TCS Lucknow. The students of this school come from the neighboring
slums & communities, a lot of them compelled by their circumstances also work in
houses as domestic helpers during the day. A “Pad Sanitation Drive” (through Tata
Volunteering Week -8 Initiative under Purpose4Life activities) was conducted to
provide them a clean, hygienic and hassle- free time during their monthly period
cycle. This involved donation of sanitary pads collected through a drive organized
at branch level and sensitizing girls through a session on how to govern their health
and hygiene during this time. Along with this a “Session on English grammar” (through
Tata Volunteering Week -8 Initiative under Purpose4Life activities) was conducted
by our associates with an aim to improve their 'basic' English skills which in turn
would help in nurturing the listening, speaking and reading skills of the students;
thereby helping the beneficiaries in enhancing their performance in all the fields.
