interacted with the teachers and children. They explained the importance of sports

literacy training programme. Two more classes were conducted last week. The program

Volunteers from JUSCO, Environment & CSR dept. organized a Competency Building session
at Chota Talsa Village Library. The session consisted of talks about career counseling,
stress management and personality development. At the end of the session volunteers
distributed various subjective and competitive exam books. The students seemed really
pleased and promised to use the books wisely, and work hard towards accomplishing
their goals.

Cleanliness drive

As part of "Clean Mithapur" drive a cleanliness drive was organised at Junior Officers'
colony to clean-up the parks and roadsides. Around 80 volunteers including TCL employees,
family members and retired employees volunteered for the same. Volunteers also helped
apply lime paint on tree trunks to keep off termites. The purpose of the program
was to create awareness on cleanliness and spruce up the place for the Navratri
festival.

JUSCO, Billing & CR and Safety dept. volunteers organized a Swachh Awareness Sessions
at a school UMS Uttamdih, Ghamaria. The volunteers talked about the objectives of
Bal Swachhata Abhiyan, and personal health & hygiene rules. At the end of the session
all pledged to remain committed towards cleanliness. An Essay, slogan and drawing
competition was also held and the winners were distributed prizes.

Composting drive

The Mithapur wilderness faces a chronic problem of spread of an exotic weed (Prosopis
juliflora) which is not conducive for the ecosystems here. Much of the new growth
of this weed is spread by Neelgai which feeds of the seedpods and help in seed dispersal
through its droppings. TCL volunteers have been helping collect Neelgai droppings
and other organic wastes from the wilderness and the same is used for production
of organic manure through composting. The manure so produced is used for development
of grasslands for rehabilitation of coastal sand dunes and development of habitat
for the endangered Houbara bustard and other grassland birds. More than 30 volunteers
including employees, family members and retired employees volunteered for compost
bed preparation and manure harvesting work.

School at Lalbhatta. The volunteers had organized an awareness session on Eve-teasing
and showed relevant videos, also advised the children to always confront their elders.

School at Lalbhatta. The team gave away study material and indoor game sets, like
crayons, drawing books, skipping ropes, carom Board, tennis ball etc. to encourage
children to play all kinds of sports and games. Volunteers also spent quality time
with these children which brought smiles on their faces.

A Team of 28 volunteers from Tata Projects - Serein Project Site, visited ‘Vivekananda
Balashram- Yeoor’’ at Thane -Mumbai. Volunteers interacted with the children and
organized a health check-up for them. They distributed bed sheets and first aid
kits. They also conducted Drawing/Housie competitions. Prizes were disturbed to
the students who participated in the games.

A team 38 volunteers from Tata Projects organised a visit to a blind school located
at Begumpet, Secunderabad. The volunteers interacted with the children and served
fruits. The VP & Head - Construction & Environment participated in the event and
distributed sweets to the children.

Cancer screening camp

A team of 16 volunteers participated in a cancer screening camp organised by Grace
Foundation through LIC for the rural community to screen cancer and provide treatment.
The volunteers were involved in the enrolment for the cancer screening during the
program at Jeedimetla. The volunteers spent time with the community and explained
the importance of good health. The check-up has been carried out by the team of
doctors & medicines were given to those who required the treatment.

A team of 4 volunteers from Tata projects conducted special classes for children
adopted under Affirmative Action. The main purpose of conducting special classes
is to increase the quality of education and improving their percentage of marks,
building confidence for continuing higher education and to increase in the admissions
of the students inspired to go for higher studies.

Volunteers (mostly retired employees of TCIL) organized a football tournament for
students of village remedial centres. 24 teams comprising of 170 players from the
nearby villages participated in the tournament. The players from these remote areas
showcased their talent. Deewana Sporting Club became the champion and MBM Club were
the runners-up of the tournament.
