The Campton Place team volunteered in the Project Homeless Connect event in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. Eight members of the Taj Campton Place team worked at the event making the participants feel welcome and helping them to access various vital services. Homelessness is one of the major problems faced by the city of San Francisco. This important event connects the people living on the streets with a wide range of vital services which they need. The participants have an opportunity get services from employment counselors, mental health professionals, housing assistance programs, eye care, personal grooming and food supplies. The goal was to ensure participants have all the tools necessary to rebuild what they have lost and move forward. The organizers of the event and the participants were very appreciative of the enthusiastic efforts put in by the Taj Campton Place team.

The team in Rockaway is participating in collection of donations for CRS Rice Bowl. 75 percent of the gift supports CRS’ programs around the world. Some examples include agriculture projects help farmers improve harvests, water and sanitation projects bring clean water to communities, microfinance projects support small businesses, mother and child health projects offer health and nutrition services, education projects provide resources and training. Remaining 25 percent of the donations go to hunger and poverty alleviation efforts in the community.

Skill Building at YuvaLok School

The associates and volunteers at VBT MG road came together to conduct skill building sessions and in the process mobilize the students of YuvaLoK school for the Tata STRIVE Program. YuvaLok foundation focuses on children and youth who are less privileged, those who are on the streets, the rural poor, the tribal children having no access to academic prospects, giving them hope and an opportunity. The team from the hotel went to the school to and gave the students a brief on the hospitality industry and also showed them what the world of Taj and Tata STRIVE had to offer. The day ended with fun games and activities with the underlying theme of giving their dreams wings to fly!

TCS Pune Maitree visited Chhatrapati Pratishthan NGO on the occasion of Holi. The team decided to play Holi with the lovely kids and share warmth of being in the vicinity of loved ones. As always the event started off with Deva's yogasan. Volunteers made these Kids sit in the circle and played musical ball. Unlike before, this time even the volunteers had to join kids for dance. The energy of the children was indeed contagious. These games were then followed by sweet distribution. After refreshments all painted each other’s faces with colours. It was a bliss to see the children enjoying so much, playing colours, hovering around carefree.

SNEH TCS SANGAM took the slum kids of SNEH GYAAN project to Science Park so that they can learn something in a fun and practical way. The major focus of the event was to create awareness among the community to support and encourage girl child education. The volunteers were keen to teach the general science of our daily lives to the kids and to show how humans have evolved from the Stone Age. The children saw how 3D projection works through an educational 3D show.

A health check-up camp was held at RBC Malda village near Joda. It was combined with blood grouping, distribution of new cloths and a talk on health, hygiene, safety program. 57 girls who are school drop-outs and few of them who never attended schools are nurtured / nourished under Residential Bridge Course program run by TSRDS, where these children are motivated for better living and prepared for admission in appropriate classes in any of the nearby schools.

No Plastic Waste awareness campaign

Large number of volunteers participated in the awareness campaign in a village named Tragadi and interacted with the community, shopkeepers, visited each of the household and briefed the negative effects of usage of plastic bags and value of cleanliness. They appealed for greener and cleaner surroundings which can only be attained if the combined efforts could be initiated and individual is self-conscious about health and hygiene. The volunteers have focused and adopted the approach of Behavior Change Communication which is the ultimate tool to create more awareness and ownership among the masses.

Tata Power DDL organized Community Reach Out Program (CROP) to disseminate awareness in the community about its various CSR initiatives like Vocational Training, Women Literacy Program, Mobile Dispensary services and Drug De-addiction camps at 06 districts spread across North & North West Delhi. During the program Tata Power DDL employees & ABHA members (brand ambassadors) visited households, briefed them about various CSR initiatives and sensitized them to take benefit of the programs besides capturing their personal details & short feedback. The survey aimed to capture first hand info about the needs & requirements of communities. Accordingly steps will be taken to meet the expectations & necessities of the communities. Over 1000 households were sensitized by team of 290 volunteers simultaneously at 06 locations during the program.

Sustainability Training on ‘Zero Waste Management’

A two day Training programme was conducted by the volunteers, based on the awareness session organized on ‘Zero Waste Management’ for the principals/ teachers of various schools/ colleges. The first day, the team divided the batch into groups for discussing on how they benefited from the earlier sessions and how they could implement waste management in their respective schools/colleges. At the end of the session, teachers shared the possible problems faced by them in implementing waste management in classrooms. The team also advised to form a waste management group of students and formulate a plan in this regard.
The volunteers in the ‘Day 2’ of Sustainability Training organized on ‘Zero Waste Management’ for the principals/ teachers of various schools/ colleges, discussed solutions for the problems talked about the previous day. The team divided the batch into groups, each group came up with innovative solutions, sharing their personal ways of handling waste in their homes and work place. An idea of making handmade papers using waste paper at schools was highly appreciated. The team also decided to hold workshops like this in future for school students.

TCS Pune Maitree team with 25 volunteers, visited the Technical Training Institute of PMBA (Poona Blind Men’s Association). The volunteers first met the differently-abled students who were preparing for their jobs. Most of them had completed their training and had job offers. The volunteers learnt the sign language from them. They then served lunch to all the students and interacted with them. The volunteers had a formal meeting with the heads of the institute, who apprised us about the NGO, their mission and how we can partake in their mission.

Tata Power - DDL, in association with Prajapita Brahm Kumari’s organized drug de-addiction camp for the needy ones at CD Park, Jahangirpuri, JJ cluster in North Delhi. Organizing team with help from employee volunteers made home visits to the residents of the clusters motivating them to attend the camp and avail benefits from it. The team of 17 volunteers also counselled the attendants of the camp and free homeopathic medicines were distributed to them.

A team of 10 volunteers from Revenue Management Group and Connection Management Group made a visit to the vocational training center at CSA Colony, Shakti Nagar and Sector-3, Rohini respectively. Volunteers inspired the students to perform different activities like small acts, poem-recitation and songs in front of class. They shared their experiences with tutorial class students and motivated them to study well. Students of computer class and beautician class shared their learnings. Valuable tips and tricks for basics of computer was shared with computer class students. Quiz was organized for the beneficiaries of vocational training courses and the winners were awarded. Different games were played with the beneficiaries of tutorial class. Volunteers also distributed stationery item and goodies to the kids.

The Pullivasal Packeting Centre of Tata Global Beverages under took the volunteering activity at Govt. Vocational Higher Secondary School, Munnar, Kerala 685 612, located just 6 KM away from the factory. It provides higher secondary education to plantation sector employees’ children. A total of 75 stakeholders from the factory took part in this one day social activity which included permanent, temporary, contract employees, children of employees and our business partners associated to the plant. The motto of the volunteers was ONE DAY WORK. The volunteers under took this service on a Sunday to ensure the active participation of employee family members, business associates and it does not interfere with the normal working of the school. During the day; volunteers completed various upkeep works of school infrastructure and also helped improve the environment of the school.

‘Umang’ Cultural Club of Tata Power-DDL celebrated the World Water Day, by organizing a Walkathon for sensitizing common masses on the said theme. Around 150 TPDDL & business associate employees participated in Walkathon carrying placards on Water Conservation & its importance. The walkathon started with Safety Pledge of TPDDL. A stretch of nearly 2 kms was covered by volunteers going through residential areas of Lok Vihar. Senior leadership team of TPDDL also took part in the drive and encouraged the volunteers.
