are trained to talk with children on personal safety - how to recognize, resist
and report sexual abuse. These personal safety rules apply to and can be taught
to older children and adolescents as well. It was conducted over 3 weeks for different
age groups and we are likely to complete this education by Oct 11th – International
Girl Child Day.

With the city so busy during the day, many heritage locations couldn’t be cleaned
without disturbing the daily routines. So a group of volunteers meet together and
then starts cleaning areas such as bus stops, post offices and school yards. By
removing the posters and filth that has been accumulated for months, these volunteers
give a coat of paint to the walls and a new sheen of life. The volunteers associated
with NGO Thuvakkam to conduct this activity as part of Daan Utsav – Joy of Volunteering
campaign

Based on the Education Audit Report conducted in the community of Chemmenchery,
the volunteers found a big gap in the learning level on basic reading and arithmetic
skills of every student. The volunteers are organizing weekly classes engaging them
on activity based learning, movie screening and awareness sessions on health, hygiene
and safety. The volunteers conducted a movie screening on “Joy Of Giving” and inculcated
the values of giving and how happy it would be if they give something to a needy.
They also gave a profile talk on “Mahatma Gandhi” as the next day we celebrated
Gandhi Jayanti and then followed the activity based learning program.

Beach Cleanup

Chennai’s beaches – world’s second largest shoreline are filled up with waste and
garbage. An initiative has been planned to clean the beach for a healthy environment
and encouraging volunteers to experience the joy of cleaning. The volunteers cleaned
up the prestigious Marina Beach on 2nd Oct, as part of Daan Utsav and Swachch Bharat

Mural Wall Painting

walls of ICCW crèches in Chemmenchery. They have curated arts on cartoons and illustrations

to give away hundreds of sandwiches to the support staffs spreading the Joy of Giving

Science fair for children

Science Fair was organised by Rallis India Dahej Unit and 11 Participants actively
participated in the activity with co- ordinating 6 participant schools. All schools
executed their science Model and volunteers encouraged them by giving additional
technical knowledge to their project wherever required. The program was inaugurated
with a nice performance of the Students.

Conducting a hobby class

Rallis Volunteers organized a Hobby class for 6th & 7th standard students of Z P
school Barvai at Barvai village on old Mumbai Khopoli highway. Under this hobby
class students were taught to make drawing from alphabets. The focus of this activity
was to improve English spellings through the picture they have drawn from alphabet
like Elephant from “E”, Giraffe from “G”, Fish from “F”, etc. Students enjoyed the
activity and volunteers also helped them drawing the picture. Volunteers also made
them aware of using paper bag instead of plastic bag and taught them to prepare
paper bag.

Conducting a session on Interpersonal effectiveness

Continuing to extend support to Tata Strive, team of volunteers from Taj Krishna,
Hyderabad geared up to nurture the youth of Hyderabad by taking various sessions
covering wide range of topics. On Tuesday, Team HR conducted a session on “Interpersonal
Effectiveness” where the volunteers briefly explained the students about how to
be more effective in their day to day dealing with others including family, friends,
colleagues etc. They also explicitly explained the importance of self-esteem and
how it aid in building one’s confidence. Building self-confidence is very much required
so that they are prepared to face the inevitable future challenges and be prepared
for it. The students attending the session appreciated the volunteers for conducting
this session as it is very important for their future development.

Painting activity with children

Volunteers from Rallis India Limited, Ankleshwar visited the school called Kalrav.
The school has more than 80 special kids. The event started with painting activity
to encourage the artistic ability of special kids. To make the event more exciting
a specialty of Gujarat – Garba & Dance activity was organized for these kids. “Art
activities for children with special needs to not only enhance their abilities but
also sharpen their mind. They also provided them the learning material which will
help them to scale up in their studies.

Road safety awareness

Little care while driving can make accidents rare. The important thing is to stay
alert at all times while using the roads. In that way, one can take necessary action
to avoid danger whenever we see one. Over 100 employees of Rallis Ankleshwar Unit
participated in this activity to spread awareness in GIDC estate and distributed
reflecting stickers. All the volunteers along with the beneficiaries took a pledge
to drive safely.

Visit to a slum

TCL employee volunteers and family members visited slums at Arambda village and
interacted with children and their parents. Biscuits and food packets were gifted.
A visit to the nearby girl’s school was also organised the following day and the
students were gifted books and stationery. An interaction on career opportunities
was conducted and TCL family members participated in a Garba dance with the students.
TB Hospital at Varvala village was also visited and TB patients were gifted dry
fruits and dates.

Volunteers of Rallis India Lote Unit conducted an Essay Writing Competition on ‘’My
Favourite Personality and My Favourite Indian Festival’’ at Z P School -2, Ghanekunt.
A total of 54 students participated from Std. 3 to 7. The volunteers distributed
pen and paper to the students and helped all the students in preparing the assigned
Essay. All the students completed the essays beautifully within the given time.
This helped the students to improve their knowledge about the great Indian leaders
and Indian Festivals.

Tata Global Beverages Limited, Munnar organised the trip to Idamalakudi, a tribal village in Idukki. This was a project in connection with the Malayala Manorama‘s Nullapadam. 15 students and 5 Teachers reached Idamalakudi after a very tedious 10 kms walk through dense forest and spent the whole day interacting with the tribal community. Note books, science kits and cots for the people were distributed during the day.

Volunteers of Tata Global Beverages visited VAANI, a deaf children’s foundation
in Bangalore. Vaani works to bring communication and language into the lives of
deaf children and their families. It is associated with the Tata Trusts, Godrej
Foundation, The Government of Assam etc. for improving the lives of deaf children.
Their mission is to ensure that every deaf child is given the opportunity to communicate,
to learn, to grow and to participate in the world like any other regular child.
The volunteers experienced the joy and fullness of being with the children of Vaani.
They participated in learning games and shared some Diwali gifts with the children.

40 employees took part in this activity wherein used bed sheets/towels were washed & packed item wise by the launderer & delicious snacks prepared by the chefs were distributed to the less fortunate. Everyone also took part in a thorough cleaning drive around the slums and removed all debris and gave them information’s about sanitization & importance of keeping areas clean especially when there are small babies & children living in the habitat.

Enthusiastic employee volunteers from Vehicle Factory went to the Antyodaya Bhavan, the old age home. After assessing what contributions they could make, the team procured fruits, sweets, new bed sheets and interacted with each of the female and male residents of the Bhavan. Volunteers distributed the fruits, sweets and bedsheets and committed to sponsor meals of the residents. They spent time talking to the residents and listened to heart rendering devotional songs sung by two residents.

A team from Joda conducted a cleanliness campaign at Joda Bus Stand and also visited Youth Resource Center, Bachchu Hutting village near Joda. With the help of Engineering services the Joda Bus stand premises was cleaned in the morning. In the evening the team visited Youth Resource Center, Bachchu Hutting village, where around 70 (Seventy) children are trained for skill development as well as they study in different schools.

Volunteers from Flat Product Planning team, Tata Steel Jamshedpur, visited School of Hope, a school for differently abled children. A Drawing and Colouring competition was organised for sixty students. Snack packets and sweets were distributed to the children as a token gift towards their participation. 3 students from the group, who had exceptional capability, were honoured and gifted with colouring kits to help them hone their skill. Volunteers spent time with the children and purchased packets of candles and diyas made by the children. Thereafter, the children were taken on a tour to the Tata Zoological Park. The joy in their eyes and actions spoke more than words.

A heap of garbage accumulated at one corner of the road approaching to Basti near Kristna Road, Sidgora was cleaned completely. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm amongst participants during the course of cleaning. The local residents appreciated this effort and pledged to keep the surrounding cleaned for ever.

Tata Power DDL organized a felicitation ceremony for International Literacy Day Celebration at CENCARE Office (Keshavpuram) for the beneficiaries of Women Literacy Centers. A writing competition on ‘Importance of Literacy for women’ was organized wherein 85 beneficiaries participated. Out of all, 6 entries were awarded & all the participants were given a token of appreciation. A total of 45 volunteers supported for smooth conduct of the event.

As a part of Swachch Bharat Abhyan, TCE conducted kitchen waste management awareness program for the volunteers. Environment is main concern for the society. Canteen waste and kitchen waste contributes 60% to the environment. This can be controlled by utilizing the waste in making them compost and using them as manure to build up our own organic garden. Volunteers were given hand on experience of making compost with the canteen wastes. Volunteers were in turn asked to spread the awareness in their gated community. Senior leaders of TCE volunteered their time too.
