The volunteers organized health camps through a Mobile Medical Van and went to the villages. The volunteers of Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (Tata Power), went to door to door and discussed along with the accompanying doctor on Health Awareness and other Medical services available. The experience of the volunteers were very satisfying.

Visit to slum area

Slum dwellers compromise a large chuck of the urban population, but unfortunately they are the most neglected too. 13 Tata BSS Jamshedpur volunteers visited a slum area named as Parwati Basti (Aditypur). The residents are mostly daily wage earners. The volunteering team spend three hours with them. They spoke about sanitization, daily hygiene and the importance of it in their surrounding areas. The volunteers also donated clothes, food packets and stationary items. The parents were encouraged to send their children to schools. The residents were very happy with the time spent and were all praises for the Tata group.

TML Drivelines organized a volunteering activity at the United Forum of Health & Environment (UFHE), Jamshedpur to celebrate Teachers’ Day. The occasion witnessed a number of cultural events put up by the children, demonstrating their varied skills. The event concluded with the distribution of whiteboards, maps and other stationery items and chocolates among the students at UFHE.

The Employees of Noamundi Iron Mines, Tata Steel volunteered for the Teachers Day celebration at Birsa Memorial High School Siyaljora, Jagannathpur wherein they participated in Birthday celebration of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and honoured all the teachers with respect & appreciation. The volunteers distributed note books, pencil box with pen, pencil, sharpener, erasers & toffees to 300 students of the school. One of the volunteer presented a magic show for the school children, teachers & staff members and villagers. The program was enjoyed by the audience.

Senior colleagues inaugurated the Pre Matric Coaching Classes for 8th, 9th & 10th standard students of Sishu Niketan School at Ghatotand. In addition to this, TSRDS volunteers also conducted a study on Body Mass Index a Health awareness program on Anemia & Malnutrition.

A team of employees from HRM Department headed by senior colleagues visited Rajasthan Vidya Mandir Middle School at Sakchi, Jamshedpur. The team moved around the campus and assessed the situation of the school and the infrastructure. The team also interacted with the students and the teaching staff. The idea was to spend some time with these children and help the children through volunteering. The team assured their co-operation and continuous support in the overall development of the school and its students.

A movement towards creating a model village

A group of 22 officers, Union leaders and associates undertook visit to a tribal village Lahanda, situated in Birikala GP of Joda block in Keonjhar district, Odisha. During this visit the officers made the villagers aware on how to make the village free from open defecation and ensure 100% immunization and school enrolment to make it a “Model village” in the region. The villagers expressed their leadership role that they have been contemplating and the will to make their village a model with the support of Tata sponge and Gram Vikas (a partner NGO).
They expressed their gratitude to Tata Sponge to support them for construction of toilets, bathrooms and providing water facilities and also for introducing education through computer, which is beneficial for the children.

At Tata Sponge iron Limited on 6th September 2016, TVW 6 was formally launched by the Managing Director in presence of senior colleagues. On this occasion, MD made everybody aware about the message of Group Chairman and briefed about the genesis of volunteering in the Tata Group. He also appealed to take this process wholeheartedly along with the family members to bring lasting changes in the lives of people living in our surrounding. He appreciated the Head CSR and every family member for investing their meaningful efforts during last year and how Tata Sponge Iron ranked 6th amongst the Tata Group Companies on quality volunteering.
