A group of volunteers visited Naryanpur, a tribal dominated village, situated in Anseikala gram panchayat of Joda block in Odisha. The volunteers motivated the villagers to ensure all the children should enrolled in Anganwadi centres and schools. They encouraged them to ensure not a single child drops out from school. The children should not engaged in labour during this precious period of their life.
Similarly, the students were motivated to identify those children are not coming to the schools in their village and take help from the teachers, SMC (School Management Committee) members and Panchayat members to motivate them to join age-appropriate education. Further they were motivated to pursue their education to attain aim of their life, practice health & hygiene and participate in co-curricular activities.

Blood donation drive

48 volunteers donated blood at the Development Centre in Thiruvananthapuram. The camp was organized by Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital. Four volunteers from Tata Elxsi coordinated this day-long drive. The team from the hospital highly appreciated the benevolent spirit of the volunteers. They indicated that the blood donated can save the lives of as many as 144 recipients.

The team from Vivanta by Taj MG Road Bangalore visited Don Bosco Skill Mission, Bannerghatta to conduct a session on Environmental awareness for the students and trainers present in the institute. The session was taken by Executive Housekeeper and she shared some startling facts about the Mother Nature and the harm we have caused to her. The session brought into light different ignored aspects of the environment and what small changes we as responsible citizens can make which will have a big impact in the future. The activity sure engaged the bunch of eager minds but more over it also brought in place a strong sense of awareness which we often tend to lack.

Spreading the message of environment protection, the volunteers from Vivanta by Taj MG Road Bangalore got together with the students and trainers to plant saplings at Don Bosco Skill Mission. The students who are hospitality trainees and the future of hotels get trained in all the facets of the hospitality world. The students are from humble backgrounds and are prepared by the management at DBSM. The team was headed by the executive housekeeper and her gardeners team.

Volunteers from Tinplate Company visited the village remedial class at Lupungdih Village. This remedial class has a strength of 52 children, most of them from underprivileged section of the society and dropouts. These children need coaching, handholding & motivation to pursue their education. Since their parents are illiterate, they do not give much importance to education. The volunteers regularly interact with these children & encourage them to pursue study. This has yielded excellent results. Children now take keen interest in studies and have started going to schools. The volunteers distributed study materials like notebook, pen, pencil, eraser, chalk and biscuit packet to the students.

Green Walkathon took steps ahead commencing from Vivanta by Taj MG Road Bangalore to Ulsoor Lake – Ganesha Immersion Tank. The 5 Bangalore Taj hotels mobilized 25-30 volunteers from each unit who with placards and banners took it on the road. The volunteers across hotels and departments come together despite the unrest in the city and distance constraints. Vivanta by Taj MG Road - Leadership team heading the walkathon along with the who’s who from the other hotels created the motivation for our fellow volunteers. The support from the BBMP and police force made it possible for the event to be a successful one.

The volunteers from 5 Bangalore Taj hotels conducted a cleanliness drive at the Ulsoor Lake Periphery area. Volunteers ranging across departments, age groups and gender come to join hands in their cleaning gears during the early morning hours. The group divided themselves and picked up areas for clearing out the garbage on the roads. The day was both a collaborative and fruitful one with lessons to carry back for all of us. Post the drive, the volunteers gathered at Vivanta by Taj MG Road for some refreshments while carrying back memories of the day.

The volunteers interacted with BIRHORE (Primitive Tribe) children and sponsored their education at ST. Roberts Residential School, Hazaribagh.

Volunteers from The Gateway Hotel, Vijayawada organised a general health check-up for Syed Appalaswamy College students & Staff members in collaboration with doctors who checked the blood pressure, height, weight, eye checkup and blood sugar of the people and then they were lead to another area where E.C.G. was taken followed by consultation. Based on the E.C.G. report the cardiology recommended for 2D Echo for the students. A total of 152 students availed benefit from the medical camp.

The Gateway Hotel, Vijayawada organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank to support the noble cause of donating blood to saves one’s life. Posters were put on the notice board and it was encouraging to see a lot of volunteers giving their names for this noble cause. All the HODs motivated their teams by taking the lead for this initiative. It was heartening to note that many of the participants were first-timers! A Thank you note with the names of the donors was later put up on the notice board soon after the completion of the camp.

TSPDL organised a day filled with fun and frolic for the inmates of the SOS Children’s Village, at Salt Lake, Kolkata. The day began with small walk around & introduction of TSDPL volunteers with the villagers. After the introduction and a walk around the volunteers organised a tree plantation programme. In the afternoon gaming activities for the children were conducted which included biscuit race amongst the little angels followed by Memory game, race and musical chair. All the children enjoyed the program & participated with full enthusiasm. Finally the day was concluded by distributing prizes to the winners followed up by distribution of gifts for all children of the village.

15 volunteers from TCE Delhi Delivery Centre visited “The Saviour School” in Noida. The school caters to the learning aspiration of economically challenged kids. The activity started with interaction with students & faculty members followed by a learning session through ‘General Knowledge Quiz’ and ‘Basic Computer Literacy’. To enhance the learning capabilities of students, TCE distributed dictionaries and provided wall-hanging educational charts to the school. Volunteers provided tips to students on basic health and hygiene aspects. The water quality in the area is a concern and hence TCE donated a water purifier to the school to ensure safe drinking water for the students. Volunteers planted (tree) saplings within the school premises. The session ended with distribution of light refreshments for the students.

The volunteers conducted door to door awareness in one village of Barabanki district sensitizing people about the sanitation and cleanliness in order to protect dengue and other diseases. The Volunteers along with the Village Pradhan counselled the villagers and children of the primary school on need of cleanliness and hygiene. They were also involved in the fogging drive aimed at dengue protection conducted in the village.

They also distributed a Hygiene Kit among 40 students who participated in the programme. The volunteers conducted a practical session on proper hand washing and personal hygiene and explained the importance of the same in life.

The aim was to highlight various career paths available for students after completing their school studies including hospitality industry. In order to make the programme more interesting, HODs from all the departments were present to answer queries.
