TATA VOLUNTEERING WEEK 5 Update No. 21
 
  The Library Project Tata Sons and TCS  |  Beijing and Hangzhou
 
Tata Sons, Beijing and Tata Consultancy Services, Hangzhou delivery centre co-hosted a charity event with The Library Project at Qianlu Elementary School in Lisui, Zhejiang Province. Tata volunteers brought them more than 1,500 books in many categories, as well as all kinds of school supplies such as educational toys, tape recorder, globe and sporting goods. The volunteers collected many books and studying material from their companies, home, and societies, and brought them all to the site.
 
The donated books and library facilities will be greatly useful for improving students’ reading and broadening their views. In the following interaction session, students and Tata volunteers enjoyed a great time reading together. This is the fifteenth library that Tata has donated to schools in China since it started working with The Library Project in 2011

Volunteers from Tata Technologies conducted a value education program at Punaruththan Samarasata Gurukulam School. With the help of Pune’s leading Skill Development Team “Smart Champs”, a workshop was conducted that aimed to engage the underprivileged students in brain development exercises. The primary objective of this activity was to help school children think independently and sharpen their problem solving ability. It also helped their ‘Permutation and Combination’ ability and improved concentration
 
  Engineering Seminar for college students Tata Technologies  |  Pune
 
Tata Technologies volunteers organized a seminar on Automotive New Product Development Process at S. B. Patil Institute of Management, Pune. A technical Lead from engineering department spoke in detail about the type of body work for passenger cars, vehicle classification, frame work, opportunity evaluation for different vehicles, product life cycle and benchmarking. This was one of its kind industry- academic interaction where students were enriched with the advance knowledge on Product Development Process

Vivanta by Taj, Gurgaon team cleaned the business hub of Gurgaon which is full of hawkers, parking lots and public lawns. This initiative helped in creating awareness and motivating people to maintain their area clean and devoid of garbage such as plastics, disposable plates. This also encouraged them to use dustbins to throw their waste

Vivanta Gurgaon invited the children of ‘Happy School’ for a culinary skill building session. The motive was to teach them quick and handy recipes like making sandwiches. It was a very good practical experience for them. Our expert chef gave them a live demo and taught them the basics of sandwich preparation

The volunteers organised a Personal Hygiene & Grooming Training for the children of Sugam NGO. The training session was conducted by the Manager, who taught them the importance of hygiene including proper procedure of washing hands and face, grooming tips on hair styling, dressing up smartly. They were also made aware on the importance of drinking clean water

The Gateway Hotel, Nashik hosted an exhibition of products made by Prabodhini Trust, an institution for the care of mentally challenged. The articles included bags, files, papads, etc. The trust received an encouraging response from all the associates

5 members of Team JUSCO visited Dalma mountains, for Swachh Awareness and cleaning drive. The volunteers collected all plastic, chocolate wrappers and un- wanted materials which cause environmental degradation and make the environment unhygienic

20 employees of Procurement Dept. of JUSCO conducted an awareness session on environment. More than 50 families participated and displayed their passion towards saving the environment. The team made the residents aware of the principles of 3 R's Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

21 employees from Customer Relation & Corporate Communication department visited Gandhi Ashram, Baradwari to inculcate Swachh Bharat awareness among the children of the colony. They provided children of the vicinity with basic study material, toys and food packets. The programme explained the importance of cleanliness and how to keep environment clean

17 employees from HR Dept. of JUSCO visited village Harisundarpur, which has been adopted by JUSCO as a part of its CSR activities. They organized sports activities and also gifted the winners of the events. Food packets where also shared with the children of the academic centres
 
  Interaction with communities KDHP  |  Kerala
 
As part of an outreach program, 53 employees of Letchmi visited the Seva Bharathi Vidhyarthini Home and Mahila Shamatchiya society vedi. The team distributed sweets, cosmetics, dresses, blankets, provisions, stationery and sanitary napkins to all residents of both these homes. The team provided lunch for the occupants of both these shelter homes. Then the team visited ‘Surakkatankudi’ a Tribal hamlet with 42 families. The hamlet does not have any schooling or medical facilities. The team comprising of a medical officer and nurses conducted a medical camp and distributed free medicines to the needy. Classes on hygiene and nutritional diet were conducted for the tribes. The team also prepared lunch at the hamlet to educate the people about the intake of a balanced diet. The medical team also conducted an awareness programme on family planning for the inhabitants of the hamlet. The team spent a complete day serving the underprivileged and interacting with them. The team raised INR 1,87,000/- for purchase of articles that were distributed to members of all three communities
 
  Medical camp KDHP  |  Kerala
 
A team of 12 employees from Nyamakad Estate visited three Muthuvan Kudi’s (Tribal Hamlets) namely Parappayarkudi, Vellavarai Kudi and Edalippara Kudi. The team undertook a mammoth task of a two day, 15 km trek through dense forests to cover the three hamlets and conducted a medical camp for the tribes as part of the outreach initiative. 246 individuals received medical attention and medicines through this initiative. KDHP also installed 8 solar street lights in tribal settlements as normal electricity connection is still a distant dream for them. The team spent time with people of the hamlets

  Reuse the old news Tata Communications   |  Mumbai
 
In an effort to ‘Nurture Nature’ and Reuse and Recycle the waste, volunteers at Tata communications Mumbai, Fort office made useful gift bags from old newspaper. The volunteers used colorful strings to make the bag handles look attractive. Paper bags will be donated to partner organization ‘The National Association of Disabled’s Enterprises’ (NADE), and will be used by them to serve their customers, instead of plastic bags.
 
Volunteers from Tata Communications Equinox office spent a day towards recycling newspapers into desk decorative pieces. The volunteers made pen stands, wall hangings, desk decorative articles, fruit baskets etc. Volunteers truly enjoyed the activity and learned something new, as to how to recycle different products
 
  Collection Drive Tata Communications  |  Ahmedabad
 
Tata Communications volunteers in Ahmedabad organized a cloth collection drive from 16th March to 23rd March. The intent of the drive was to collect clothes which can be utilized by someone in need. 55 volunteers donated the clothes to support this drive. A team of 7 volunteers visited the Ramdevnagar communities to distribute these clothes. Beneficiaries were very happy to receive these clothes which will protect them from scorching heat during summer in Ahmedabad
 
  Reduce Reuse Recycle Tata Communications  |  Chennai
 
45 Volunteers from Tata Communications visited Siragu Montessori School. Volunteers divided into 2 groups, with one group involved in building tables using old newspaper and the other engaged in constructing a green wall using old water bottles, sand and cement. The teams were able to make 4 tables and construct 2 walls of 4 ft each. These tables will be used by children in the class rooms.

The volunteers introduced the children to an exhilarating game of cricket for the boys and badminton for the girls. They also donated sports kits including cricket bats and badminton rackets to the school children. This was followed by a small session on yoga and hygiene & cleanliness. TCE also donated a computer to the Balwadi to drive computer literacy.
 
  Promoting Health & Hygiene and sanitation Tata Consulting Engineers  |  Mumbai
 
A team of volunteers addressed the village on various issues of cleanliness, hygiene and working together to develop the village, thereby increasing the livelihood prospects. A rain water harvesting tank was constructed by TCE and the water from the tank is being used by the villagers. The women were also given basic yoga and meditation sessions. TCE employees also donated sarees, toys and clothes.

The volunteers organised a Personal Hygiene programme in the Govt Middle School, Dhaula Kuan. The main objective of this programme was to create awareness among the children about their personal hygiene & health, safe drinking water & importance of education. During this programme, volunteers interacted with the children & faculty of the school. They also donated a ceiling fan to the school as there was no fan in one classroom & it was very difficult for the children to sit there.

The volunteers conducted a blood donation drive in the Tata Housing Regional Office South India. The employees as well as co-tenants of the building participated in the activity. A total of 27 units were collected.
 
  Visit to a school Tata Motors  |  Jamshedpur
 
A team of volunteers from Tata Motors and Tata Technologies (TTL) visited Vidya Sagar Vidyalaya, Bamangora where they interacted with the school authorities. The school is supported by Tata Motors, Jamshedpur, which is committed to promoting education to children who do not belong to very privileged families. Aptly choosing to contribute to the school, the TTL Team through their personal contributions, sponsored education of four girl children and donated sports materials for the school

  Visit to a cancer hospital Tata Projects  |  Hyderabad
 
TPL collaborated with all Tata group companies in Hyderabad and organised a visit to MNJ Cancer Hospital. The volunteers donated mattresses and distributed fruits to the patients in the hospital. TCS arranged for a magician to perform a magic show for the children at the hospital
 
  Visit to a primary school Tata Steel   |  Jamshedpur
 
Employees from various departments of Tata Steel visited the primary schools of Hariyakocha, Kasidih, Gagiburu, Patipani, Bhadudih, Ladai Dungri and Adarsh Seva Sanathan. These schools are attended by children from tribal communities. The volunteers interacted with the children. In addition to giving their time, employees made a financial contribution and distributed gifts like stationery, sports material, educational charts and food
 
  Community Reach Out Program TPDDL  |  Delhi
 
The CSR department organized a Community Reach Out Program (CROP) to disseminate awareness in the community about various CSR initiatives across all five circles. During the program TPDDL & BA employees, Brand Ambassadors & Coordinators visited households, briefed them about various CSR initiatives and sensitized them to take benefit of the programs, besides capturing their personal details & short feedback. A total of 486 volunteers sensitized over 1,000 households at 5 locations during the program.
 
In a similar kind of event 54 volunteers from Special Consumer Group along with Finance & Accounts Dept. organized “J.J. Cluster – A step forward” to look into the measures being taken by residents to ensure safety and energy conservation. On the basis of feedback gathered and shared by the judges, 5 winners were selected to whom prizes were distributed. They also shared how usage of LED has helped them in reduction of their respective electricity bills. Each household was gifted an LED Bulb
 
  Sensitization walkathons TPDDL  |  Delhi
 
Cultural clubs of TPDDL Pratham, Abhiyakti & Navras organized walkathons on themes of Women Empowerment, Safety, Climate Change, and Electricity & Energy Conservation to sensitize common masses. In total 434 volunteers took part in these 3 walkathons, where they carried banners/ placards carrying messages along with slogans based on the themes through public address system

Under the umbrella of Affirmative Action program 121 SC/ST students pursuing ITI courses in different trades like Electrical, Mechanical, Automobile from ITI Pusa, ITI Narela & ITI Jahangirpuri were awarded scholarships at three different events organized by the CSR team. Total of 19 employees volunteered in the scholarship distribution program
 
  Visit to Nirmal Hriday Ashram TPDDL  |  Delhi
 
15 volunteers from Regulatory & Business Development department of TPDDL visited Nirmal Hriday Ashram. The team spent quality time with people living there and distributed edibles, toiletries and other grocery items to more than 200 residents.
 
In another event organized at the same old age home, 20 volunteers from CFO Office, Corporate F&A and Regulatory Finance of TPDDL visited the place and spent quality time with the residents. Volunteers carried food packets with them for the elderly residents of the home

TPDDL, in association with Prajapita Brahm Kumari, organized 7 drug de-addiction camps at different locations of North & North West of Delhi where individuals suffering from various addictions were given counseling and free homeopathic medicine. More than 35 volunteers contributed in mobilizing the communities, assisted in counseling & medicine distribution during the camp
