Tata Sons, Beijing and Tata Consultancy Services, Hangzhou delivery centre co-hosted a charity event with The Library Project at Qianlu Elementary School in Lisui, Zhejiang Province. Tata volunteers brought them more than 1,500 books in many categories, as well as all kinds of school supplies such as educational toys, tape recorder, globe and sporting goods. The volunteers collected many books and studying material from their companies, home, and societies, and brought them all to the site.

The donated books and library facilities will be greatly useful for improving students’ reading and broadening their views. In the following interaction session, students and Tata volunteers enjoyed a great time reading together. This is the fifteenth library that Tata has donated to schools in China since it started working with The Library Project in 2011

As part of an outreach program, 53 employees of Letchmi visited the Seva Bharathi Vidhyarthini Home and Mahila Shamatchiya society vedi. The team distributed sweets, cosmetics, dresses, blankets, provisions, stationery and sanitary napkins to all residents of both these homes. The team provided lunch for the occupants of both these shelter homes. Then the team visited ‘Surakkatankudi’ a Tribal hamlet with 42 families. The hamlet does not have any schooling or medical facilities. The team comprising of a medical officer and nurses conducted a medical camp and distributed free medicines to the needy. Classes on hygiene and nutritional diet were conducted for the tribes. The team also prepared lunch at the hamlet to educate the people about the intake of a balanced diet. The medical team also conducted an awareness programme on family planning for the inhabitants of the hamlet. The team spent a complete day serving the underprivileged and interacting with them. The team raised INR 1,87,000/- for purchase of articles that were distributed to members of all three communities

A team of 12 employees from Nyamakad Estate visited three Muthuvan Kudi’s (Tribal Hamlets) namely Parappayarkudi, Vellavarai Kudi and Edalippara Kudi. The team undertook a mammoth task of a two day, 15 km trek through dense forests to cover the three hamlets and conducted a medical camp for the tribes as part of the outreach initiative. 246 individuals received medical attention and medicines through this initiative. KDHP also installed 8 solar street lights in tribal settlements as normal electricity connection is still a distant dream for them. The team spent time with people of the hamlets

In an effort to ‘Nurture Nature’ and Reuse and Recycle the waste, volunteers at Tata communications Mumbai, Fort office made useful gift bags from old newspaper. The volunteers used colorful strings to make the bag handles look attractive. Paper bags will be donated to partner organization ‘The National Association of Disabled’s Enterprises’ (NADE), and will be used by them to serve their customers, instead of plastic bags.

Volunteers divided into 2 groups, with one group involved in building tables using old newspaper and the other engaged in constructing a green wall using old water bottles, sand and cement. The teams were able to make 4 tables and construct 2 walls of 4 ft each. These tables will be used by children in the class rooms.

A team of volunteers addressed the village on various issues of cleanliness, hygiene and working together to develop the village, thereby increasing the livelihood prospects. A rain water harvesting tank was constructed by TCE and the water from the tank is being used by the villagers. The women were also given basic yoga and meditation sessions. TCE employees also donated sarees, toys and clothes.

The CSR department organized a Community Reach Out Program (CROP) to disseminate awareness in the community about various CSR initiatives across all five circles. In a similar kind of event 54 volunteers from Special Consumer Group along with Finance & Accounts Dept. organized “J.J. Cluster – A step forward” to look into the measures being taken by residents to ensure safety and energy conservation. On the basis of feedback gathered and shared by the judges, 5 winners were selected to whom prizes were distributed.
