APPL volunteers visited an orphanage in Bokakhat which houses 33 orphan children. 16 volunteers from the estate cleaned the campus and the rooms of the orphanage. They also conducted a health checkup and provided preliminary medication to the children.

Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (Tata Power) supported the nearby High school by handing over computers so that the students can excel in computer proficiency. Volunteers from Coastal Gujarat Power Limited visited the school and carried out an initial assessment on the education effectiveness and discussed how the volunteers could groom these young minds. During the interaction with the school management and teachers, it was decided that the students of class 9 will be given basic level of computer training by the volunteers. Weekly volunteering classes by the CGPL volunteers will be held on Math, English and Science.

Blood Donation Drive

Rotary Bangalore Blood Bank - Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, Karnataka in association with Vivanta by Taj MG Road Bangalore organized a blood donation drive at the hotel. A total of 35 units were collected at the camp. Each unit of blood, post examination, would benefit 2-3 patients at a time.

The Bhutan team enthusiastically participated in a blood donation drive. A total of 16 donors donated an average of 400 ml of blood each. The national referral hospital, on behalf of their management, thanked Taj Tashi for the noble cause and the volunteers in turn promised to continue such blood donation drives in future.

Painting competition

15 kids, mostly hearing and speech impaired, had an interesting opportunity when the team invited them for a painting competition as well as a tour of the property. The children were very excited and explored the hotel. After a tour of the hotel, the volunteers organized a theme based painting competition. They were then treated with High-tea and ended with a group photo session.

A cleanliness campaign was organized at the famous Buddha point. A total of 14 associates, including the HR Manager, cleaned up the area. The care taker of the Buddha statue was very impressed by the volunteering service.

Celebrating ‘World Autism Awareness Day’

The team invited children from “Kaumaram Prashanthi Academy” to create awareness about Autism. They organized a painting competition and games with balloons to differentiate the colours. A lunch was also organized after the games. During this program all the children taught the associates how to think outside the box and learn to imagine, invent & inspire.

Volunteers from Taj Krishna, Hyderabad organized a mid-day meal for kids of “Vivekananda Public School”, which is working towards providing quality education to weaker sections of society. The volunteers from the hotel reached the venue an hour before, where they met the principal, teachers and other support staff. The children were all very happy and delighted to interact with the volunteers. Around noon, the volunteers started serving lunch to the kids.

Hygiene workshop for young children

A team of volunteers provided basic knowledge to boys about hygiene and cleanliness to avoid any sort of disease and motivated them by showing a small video clip on hygiene, cleanliness and safety. They also organized a small game with interesting props like masks, caps and whistles to keep children engaged. A routine medical checkup was done for the underprivileged children. The session ended with delicious fruits and juices.

A drawing competition was organized for the kids of the Bal Shobha Garh Sansthan. The topic ‘Nature’ was given for the competition, to give them a chance to paint their world with bright & wonderful colours, which showcase the talent hidden in those kids & their unique outlook on the topic. Around 40 kids took part in this event. In the end the volunteers gave a goodie bag to each kid, which had a chocolate, muffin & a packet of chips.

TOUCH Home Care (THC) Singapore, provides home medical, home nursing and home rehabilitative services to help the frail elderly with mobility problems enjoy greater independence and better quality of life at home.

Meals-on-Wheels is a meal delivery programme to meet the daily needs of the home-bound elderly. The elderly, who usually live alone, depend on volunteers from TOUCH Home Care's Meals-on-Wheels to deliver their meals every day. 29 volunteers from Tata communications Singapore visited Touch Home Care to spend some quality time with elderly inmates and distributed 100 packets of meals among them. Volunteers were pleased with this small act of giving a love and care bound ‘Meal’ won the hearts of elders.

A team from Kolkata office visited Mahila Seva Sadan, an old age home for elderly women. The women engaged with the volunteers by reciting poems and singing songs. The volunteers also performed for them. Some food items were also distributed to all of them. All the elderly ladies were very homely and shared their life experiences and stories. It was, overall, a great experience to be with them and learn about them.

A ‘1 Minute Traffic Safety Drive’ was organized for the resident community at Pune University Circle. The volunteers displayed various safety messages on placards. They also interacted with people about traffic safety like wearing seat belt, helmets and following lane discipline. This was followed by gifting roses and chocolates.

A collection drive for Clothes, Story-books & Toys was organised to encourage the joy of giving. The donations were then given to Sri Rakum School for the Blind and Rainbow Homes. The event was executed well with the great support of volunteers from the Admin team. In total nine big cartons of clothes useful for both adults and children were collected and one carton containing story books, educational CD's and soft toys were collected.

A lively interaction between the volunteers and school children, the principal, teachers, PRI representatives, mothers and villagers marked a celebration which was a mutually gratifying experience. The volunteers expressed their desire to help the school further by providing ceiling fans once the school obtains electricity connection and arrange a medical camp for the children, which were well appreciated by the school.
