The objective of this activity was to help school children think independently and sharpen their problem solving ability. It also helped their permutation and combination ability and improve concentration.

Celebrating world water day

The World Water Day was celebrated on 22nd March in CGPL. A marathon was organized in which volunteers participated in large numbers. A special event was organized to showcase different water related activities CGPL is undertaking and to create awareness on efficient usage of water and its conservation. It also saw participation of volunteers from other industries along with the NGO partners which made the event very successful. The senior management Team from CGPL also extended their support. The event was graced by the Hon’ble MP of Kutch who applauded the different activities of CGPL on water conservation and harvesting and appealed for more awareness among community on judicious usage of water.

Spending time with children

The volunteers of CGPL spent a day with the children of the fishermen at Sagarshala (an educational initiative by Coastal Gujarat Power Limited). They were given a brief talk on water and its importance. The little ones were very enthusiastic and asked a lot of questions which were answered by the volunteers. The volunteers shared refreshments with the children and also handed out caps

Hygiene and cleanliness activity

A team of 8 members participated in the activity of cleaning the area adjacent to the hotel, under the focus area of “hygiene & cleanliness”. During the activity, team members actively participated in cleaning the pavement leading to the bus stop and the nearby public areas that are used by employees of various companies in the vicinity.

Vivanta by Taj MG Road organized as a fund raiser for Guardians of Dreams. While the NGO took care of the registrations and coordination with the participants, the hotel took care of the venue and the promotion of the entire event. The in-house resources were used to their best abilities. Taking into consideration the profile of the participants and the expectations from such events, the hotel's management team went above and beyond to organize interesting giveaways for the participants. Seeing such impressive takeaways from the event, majority of the participants were sought information on such charity events in the future.

Vivanta by Taj MG Road Bangalore has been regularly and dedicatedly partnering with Don Bosco to improve employability of the students. The students had a great exposure to the hotel operations side while enjoying themselves through activities organized for them. Further to this, the students were encouraged to apply for a three months' on the job training (OJT) at the hotel on completion of their hospitality course at Don Bosco. Post the OJT, the best performers will be offered placements for full time jobs in the specific department.

Women's Day Celebration with the Differently Abled

The women from the Foundation for Art and Culture for Deaf in association with Vivanta by Taj MG Road Bangalore got together to celebrate the 13th Anniversary of the organization. This coincided with the Women's Day week and there could not have been a better opportunity to felicitate the women with a difference. The chief guests for the evening were Kannada film actors joined by a representative from BJP Mahila Morcha. The event also displayed creative artwork by the few painters from the group. Volunteers from TCS Bangalore joined in to aid and extend a hand at this event. All the in house volunteers from the hotel also came in being a great support during the event.

Celebrating Earth Hour

Earth Hour 2016 was celebrated between 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, 19th March 2016 globally. Jai Mahal Palace volunteers joined millions of concerned citizens throughout the world in calling for action to save our planet for future generations. The volunteers participated by simply turning off all non-essential lighting for one hour - at the Palace building. For all the In-house Guests, information was shared in advance and request for participation was expressed through letters, stating the following message:

“We would humbly request you to join us to support this initiative by putting off your room lights between 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, 19th March 2016 and witness a cultural program that we shall put together for you at the Baradari lawns. We will also place a pledge board in lobby and we request you to pledge your support to save our Planet”.

Working towards a greener environment

Associates of Vivanta by Taj – Coral Reef, Maldives took part in a sapling planting activity which took place consecutively for 4 days from 15th March to 18th March 2016 at the Hembadhu Island. Each day the respective groups assembled at the identified area and planted saplings with the help of the landscape team.
|
|
During these days, Guests were also invited to join and contribute towards the Environment. Guests appreciated the gesture and actively participated in the plantation activity. 90 associates along with guests participated in the activity and over 200 saplings were planted around the island. It was a great sight to see as all associates together in action, contributing towards the environment.

|
The objective was to create awareness amongst all associates & Guests on the Island and understanding the importance of planting saplings & saving trees, in turn contributing to saving the environment.

Blood donation camp

20 volunteers in Kolkata and 37 in Shirampur donated blood to help patients who need immediate blood transfusion. Millions of people need blood transfusions during surgery, loss of blood post an accident or because they have a disease that requires blood components.

Tata BSS volunteers visited Mahishbathan Jatiya Vidyalay (school for the underprivileged) and distributed stationary items. The students are mostly from affirmative action communities and come from poverty stricken families. They were elated with the visit and the stationary items.

Mithapur High School students for school Police Cadet (SPC) visited Coconut Fibre cluster at Makanpur. The women shared their knowledge about the formation of their SHG and capacity to start the Coconut cluster for income generation.

Then the SPC teachers shared details about their programs with the police department. The volunteers shared information on how to purchase raw material in bulk quantity to reduce the cost of material and sell in to market.

Nutrition program for girls

A group of volunteers from Instant Coffee Division of Tata Coffee Limited, Theni Tamilnadu, led by the Executive Director (ICD), visited the Govt Higher Secondary School, Jayamangalam Village and interacted with students (studying class 6th to 9th) on how nutritious food is necessary for girl children in order to maintain a healthy body. Further they were taught about the hygiene standard which has to be followed by each one of them in their day to day life to lead a healthy life. Nutrition food packets and Iron tables were given to the students in order to make them to lead a healthy life. 174 adolescent girls were benefitted through this program.

TCS volunteers conducted 'Fun with Learning' activities at the Garudacharpalya School. They conducted an English Test and then played a few fun games with the children, followed by a prize distribution to the winners. The volunteers also played games to teach the alphabet, numbers, colors and shapes in a fun way. After this chocolates were distributed.

Children from four primary schools, namely Nayi Kiran (Guru Nanak Sewa Sansthan), Rosewood Govt. School, Saksham School (Udaan NGO) and Lotus Petal Foundation were invited to the TCS Office for the Annual Interschool Meet. A series of events were conducted so as to help the guest students enjoy as well as develop a learning. The events encouraged the participants’ aesthetic sensibilities with skits, creativity, model making, stage show-ups and their musical and dancing abilities with the Western, Indian Music and Folk Dance competitions.

Hands on training

The TCS team at Trivandrum undertook hands-on electronics training in the form of microcontroller programming for 5th, 6th and 7th standard students of Government UP School, Karyavattom Trivandrum. The volunteers along with the children constructed Line follower Robot, Wall follower Robot and Obstacle avoidance Robot. The children were thrilled and excited with their creations and demonstrated this to their teachers and principal.

Road Safety Awareness Program

Volunteers helped in controlling traffic at few of the busiest spots in Jamshedpur. Locals were made aware about traffic rules and were asked to wear helmets, seatbelts and not to use mobile phones while driving. The defaulters were given rose buds as a remembrance that their loved ones cared for them and hence they should follow safety rules.

Teaching IT skills

On 15th, 16th and 17th March 2016, three teams of volunteers from TCE Mumbai office visited Sanjeevan Deep - an institute run by the Paraplegic Foundation at Airoli, Navi Mumbai. Sanjeevan Deep offers education and training in vocational skills to hearing/ speech impaired and mentally retarded children. Two computers were donated. The volunteers conducted training sessions in basic IT skills - MS Powerpoint, MS Word and MS Excel in three days. The students enthusiastically picked up the various points being taught and each student got to try his/ her hand on creating a new file, inserting pictures, varying the font sizes, doing calculations in Excel, etc. The teachers at the institute pitched in with sign language and other assistance wherever required. The TCE volunteers found the experience highly rewarding.

Visit to Nirmal Hriday

Employee volunteers including apprentices went to Nirmal Hriday - home to the orphaned, destitute and differently abled people and children. They spent time interacting with the residents of the Home and also played with the tiny tots at the Day Care Centre attached to the organization, who are children of parents working in the unorganized sector as menial workers.
