TVW8 kicked off in Lucknow with a major school activation program conducted at RU Ashram Govt Inter College. The activation program was designed to be a threefold event with focus on Tree Plantation, Students Counselling and Teachers’ Thank Giving. A total of 118 employees from Tata Motors Lucknow participated with much fervour and enthusiasm in the event. The employees left the company premises at 9:30 am and divided themselves into three groups based on their choice of activity. The group which volunteered for tree plantation, successfully planted 500 plants in the school premises. Another group led the students counselling sessions and interacted with the students, talking to them about the significance of education, the avenues of careers available for students and touched upon the larger issues of life related with personal development and growth. The third group which volunteered for Teachers Thanks Giving program conducted a focused group discussion with the teachers and spoke to them about their experiences as Government Teachers and thanked them for their invaluable contribution to the society. The group of volunteers returned to the plant at 2:30 pm after an exhaustive day of volunteering in the field.

A team of 12 volunteers visited the Animals Health Centre – OPD at old STP area Tata Chemicals Limited – Babrala - Distt. Sambhal UP. All volunteers supported registering the cattle owners examining the animals, distributing medicines and counselling cattle owners.

JUSCO, PHHS/JTO Dept. volunteers organized session on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for community mobilizers/field level workers for NGO (Vikas Bharti) at Sudernagar. These Field level workers are from different villages working on areas of Livelihood, Health, and Women Empowerment through Self Help Groups. They described in detail the genesis of SDG and the 17 goals along with its relevance to areas of their work.

Volunteers from multiple departments with Rotary Steel City organized Swachh awareness sessions at Project Balika Uchha Vidhyalaya and Abhyas Balika Madhya Vidhyalaya, Gamaharia and Oriya Middle School, Adityapur wherein Essay, Slogan and Drawing Competition were also organized and prizes were given away to the best three students for encouragement.

PHHS (Kashidih Depot) and PHHS (Barmamines Dipot) volunteers imbibed the spirit of Swachh in the residents of Bhuiyadih and East Plant Basti Kashidih Basti. Their cleaning campaign started with health and hygiene awareness to the residents and enlightened them about the preventive measures they should take to curb common diseases and ailments. Thereafter, the team joined hands with the residents to clean the surrounding area and contributed in their own way to make it a cleaner place.

A team of 19 volunteers from Tata projects undertook a cleanliness drive around the Neknampur Lake. The main motto of Lake Cleaning Campaign was to spread awareness among people and visitors to use dustbin and not to through in water bodies. Volunteers helped towards cleaner environment initiative with their participation for the lake cleaning drive on post of Ganesh Visarjan and cleaned the main road and surroundings in and around the lake and the plants.

A Dental Checkup program for Students of Kg to STD VIII of Golmuri Utkal Samaj Middle School was organized. An Ex Dental Surgeon from CMC Vellore examined all students. Dental health conditions of nearly 150 students were captured which would subsequently be sent to their parents to seek medical attention of those children having severe dental problem. Medical team along with Volunteers from TCIL participated in the program by providing support service and explaining students about good dental health practices & oral hygiene. A set of Dental Kit was provided to each student free of cost.

A volunteer from TSRDS Gomardih helped to organise a Jyoti Fellowship merit test. Jyoti Fellowship provides financial assistance for higher education to meritorious but economically marginalised schedule caste and schedule tribe students studying in class VII to class XII. The aim is to enable them accomplish their educational and career aspirations.

The seawater intake ponds at Mithapur features a dense patch of mangroves which provides refuge to waterfowl like the egrets and the herons. As part of the ongoing Tata Volunteering Week-8 drive to enhance volunteers' participation in strengthening of coastal and marine ecosystems, a mangrove habitat status assessment exercise was conducted to assess the quantum of plastic trash deposited here by the Arabian sea waters. Volunteers including TCL employees, family members and retired employees undertook a nature trail to assess the nature and quantum of plastics and other trash in the mangrove zone. A program for removal of these wastes shall be organised shortly. The exercise also provided the volunteers an experience on difficulties in working in the mangrove zone and an understanding of the importance and benefits of mangrove conservation.

Rallis Lote unit organized a tree plantation drive at Z P School, Kelane, Lote. The volunteers explained the importance of plantation and its protection. They also conducted a session on climate change. They distributed 300 Nos. various plants to the school and students. The volunteers along with students and teachers planted trees in school premises.

18 Team members of Ginger Hotel Chennai Vadapalani volunteered in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. They cleaned the neighbourhood and the surrounding area of the hotel. All team members were enthusiastic during the drive. The surrounding thereafter looked clean and beautiful.

The team taught them eight simple steps to follow while washing hands and told them some fascinating trivia about germs and cleanliness. In the end, they conducted some fun events as well. The team planted around 8 medicinal saplings as well and taught them about the importance of planting trees.
