At Tata Technologies, the effort is geared to get more young people interested in STEM subjects and inculcate experiential education in schools. Therefore, with the help of partners, the volunteers engaged school students in activities that provide opportunities for hands on experience through interesting kits. These kits essentially help kids in understanding basic concepts of science and technology. Tata Technologies Board of Directors, CEO& MD and senior leadership joined in one such activity called ‘Box of Science Activity’ with 40 students from Walhekarwadi Corporation boys school. They interacted with the children, learnt more about these experimental kits and shared their experiences.

As part of its CSR Project - Empowerment Via Education in partnership with Lila Poonawalla Foundation, Tata Technologies takes care of the technical and soft skills training needs of girl engineers, sponsored by the company for four years of engineering program. Board of Directors, MD& CEO and senior leadership team participated in one such skill development session for 50 girls organized under EVE program. This session included special assessment for women, through which they can understand their ability to behave confidently in various working environments such as IT, engineering companies, multinationals and manufacturing companies. This session was helpful to subjects related to knowledge orientation, employability skills, career clarity and adopting change.

The Team at Taj Banjara Hyderabad partnered with an NGO called Family Eduvision to donate old uniforms & the items that were part of the lost & found from the guest. Some of these items included books, clothes, pens, colour boxes, etc. The NGO works with street children & orphanages & will in turn use these items for these kids.

Volunteers from the shop/offices visited the women skill training center and imparted training to the trainees enrolled in computer education. They explained concepts through logical exercise games and rewarded the winners of each category with token of gift. The women employees also counselled the women trainees over the personal hygiene and health issues prevalent in the slum area.

Volunteers visited the District Child Welfare Office to learn the child labour eradication work and juvenile cases. Members of the DCWO briefed them about the objective of the office and support required from the volunteers. Volunteers gave assurance to report the cases related to child labour and other issues for better functioning of the office.

A group of volunteers from Tata Motors Finance, Head Office in Thane volunteered for a stationary distribution drive in Shahapur, Maharashtra. The event was organized by Umang Foundation and this event had a turnout of 9000 plus school children. Volunteers distributed school bags and stationary kits to these children.

JUSCO, Safety dept. volunteers organized a safety awareness session at a school Abhyas Balika Uchh Vidhyalay and Kanya Madhya Vidhyalay. The students were shown a visual presentation on ‘Road Safety’ and volunteers also spoke about home safety which included LPG safety and other measures.

JUSCO, PSD dept. and Accounts & TEP dept. volunteers visited Dungani Middle School and Primary School-7, Adityapur and organized a Medical Camp, including general check-up and distribution of supplements and medicines for students. This camp also included an awareness campaign where our team enlightened the residents about basic health, hygiene and sanitation. The team members also distributed sweets and beverages to all the children of the Ashram.

JUSCO, ICS dept. Volunteers organized a Blood Donation Camp for employees and their family member at JUSCO Blood Bank, Bistupur. Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person, it’s “The gift of life”. Many volunteers came forward and donated blood and those other than employees were given gifts.

JUSCO Real estate & EPC dept. volunteers organized a Drawing Competition and some fun activities at UMS Anandpur School. All the children participated enthusiastically in all fun activities arranged for them, like musical chair, throwing the ball, relay races etc. The team also distributed crayons and educational kits, biscuit packets, beverages and goodies to all the children. At the end, the drawing competition winners were given away gifts.

A group of 16 company volunteers travelled to the nearby village of Sialijoda and collaborated with 30 village youths in a mass plantation drive. High yield fruit trees were planted in a plot specially earmarked for the purpose. The initiative was praised by local villagers.

Chennai branch organised a plantation drive wherein 100 samplings were bought and employees whoever can plant a tree in public area near their houses were asked to pick up a plant and employees were asked to send pictures while planting the tree. A total of 70 employees planted them.

A dental check-up was organized by the volunteers of TCIL for the students of pre – nursery classes at no. 10 basti community development centre. An ex dental surgeon from CMC Vellore examined all students. Dental health conditions of 100 students were captured and parents of those children having severe dental problem were advised to take the preventive measures and necessary precautions. Volunteers from CSR Department participated in the program by providing support service and explaining parents on how to retain good dental health practices & oral hygiene of their children. A set of dental kit was provided to each student free of cost.

A team of Officers from MD’s Office, HRM, IT, Fin & A/cs, CSR and Security Services along with Chief Finance Officer from the Tinplate Company of India Ltd visited the Cheshire Home with groceries & food items and spent quality time with the residents. Volunteers from Tinplate had a mixed experience of both Joy and sorrow while interacting with these inmates.

A team visited ‘Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity’ to meet with the sisters who serve the people of all the ages i.e. from infants to old residents. The volunteers conduced a health check-up camp with the help of the in-house doctor who analyzed the physical fitness of people through- blood sugar check, blood pressure, etc.

The volunteers visited a non-profit to see their classrooms, dance training hall, art & craft room etc. The team spent time with the kids and organized a puppet show & magic show with the help of the hotel’s puppeteer & magician. They also danced a lot on dholak played by the puppeteer.

Across the TCS UK&I geography, colleagues were encouraged to take part in the national British Heart Foundation Campaign ‘Bag it, Beat it’, as part of the Corporate Charity Partnership. Associates across TCS and Diligenta, a fully-owned TCS subsidiary in the UK, were asked to clear out their wardrobes, attics, and cupboards to donate the items to local British Heart Foundation shops so they could raise money for life saving research. Many of the associates enthusiastically took up the challenge and helped organise events in their locations. The team has delivered over 300 bags to British Heart Foundation Shops across the UK. This has raised over £5000 in estimated sale value in their shops, which will be used to fund life-saving research. As part of the Corporate Charity Partnership with the British Heart Foundation, this money has further pushed over the fundraising target for the year.

Family members of TCL employees visited the rural women’s cluster at Arambda village near Mithapur and spent time with the new students of the beadwork classes. The purpose of the cluster is to train women in beadwork and guide them in production of bead handicrafts for the local market to help them earn supplementary income for the family.

TCL employees and family members volunteered to conduct coaching camps for football and kabbadi for rural students in 4 villages around Mithapur. The purpose of these camps is to encourage young students to take active interest in sports and to guide them for proper training. Members of the Mithapur Football and Kabbadi teams have been visiting the respective village schools on regular basis since then to help groom the students in these sports discipline.

TCL volunteers extended support for organising a medical camp at Devpara village near Mithapur. Doctors and paramedical staff from Mithapur Hospital volunteered to conducted medical check-up of 237 patients and required medicines were issued gratis. Apprentice trainees from TCL and staff members of Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD) also volunteered to reach out to the local community and ensure they avail benefit of the medical facilities offered at the camp.

Senior leaders, a science expert and other volunteers helped the students to make different toys and explained the scientific reasons. Tata Communications’ volunteers at Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru & Kochi got a chance to interact with children from the streets and orphanages, and at the same time painted their imagination and dreams on white canvas shoes. It was great fun for volunteers to engage with children and create some magic on the shoes. These shoes were later given to the children.

Volunteers from Tata Communications took on the challenge to assemble wheel chairs for people with disabilities and managed to make a small difference to their lives. 59 wheel chairs were assembled by volunteers from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

To make the learning environment of the schools conducive to delivering quality education to all, volunteers from Tata Communications picked up brushes and paints to design the walls of the government schools with colors and educational material. Volunteers created some wonderful artwork, giving a soul to the school premises. They also got an opportunity to interact with students from the schools. 1500 volunteers painted 25 schools across Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Bhopal and Bengaluru.

The volunteers conducted an awareness session on safety for the school kids of Govt Primary Schools in Villages. Led by the Safety Head of Lucknow Tata Motors, a team of volunteers organized a drawing competition for the students motivating them to pain their ideas about road safety. The competition was followed by detailed counselling of each student about road safety and domestic safety. The volunteers educated the students about the various precautions to be taken on roads and otherwise for their personal safety. Students were also encouraged to inspire their parents and family members to use helmets while driving bikes and to avoid using mobile phones while on the roads.

Post the electrical and maintenance work, on day two Taj Chandigarh decided to schedule another visit to the anganwadi in Dhanas where they delivered hygiene lecture to the children and distributed toothpaste to them. Followed the hygiene session, engagement activities with the kids were organized and the team shared piping hot samosa with a juice with the students there.

Volunteers of Tata Power – DDL participated in drug de-addiction camps at various locations in Delhi in association with the NGO partners. Volunteers visited nearby JJ clusters/ Communities to communicate information about activity and mobilised 70 beneficiaries. Beneficiaries were provided medicine and consultation from de-addiction team. Cured beneficiaries also attended the program and shared their first-hand experiences to motivate new beneficiaries into kicking the habit.

A safety and firefighting session was organized by the Security Department of TCIL for the students of Golmuri Utkal Samaj Middle School. The Head (Security Services) along with the other employees of TCIL conducted the session on how to remain safe and secure, both at school and home. The program was followed by the demonstration on the types and uses of fire extinguishers. Students also became aware about the precautions which need to be taken in case of emergency.
