TATA VOLUNTEERING WEEK 5 Update No. 13
 
  Industrial visit Tata Consultancy Services   |  Lucknow
 
An industrial visit was organized for the beneficiaries of IT Employability Program at TCS Lucknow. The IT Employability program (Affirmative Action) of TCS aims to enhance the employability of marginalized engineering students by honing their business and IT skills. In Lucknow the program was deployed in tandem with Feroze Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Raebareli. During the industrial visit, sessions on 'Leadership' and 'Performance Testing and Mobility' were conducted for the students.
 
  Cleaning the coral reef Indian Hotels  |  Maldives
 
Taking care of environment and the beautiful turquoise sea at Maldives is prime responsibility of all who are located on the beautiful island resort – Vivanta by Taj Coral Reef. As a part of our commitment to ensure safe and great snorkeling experience at our coral gardens and the occasion of the Tata Volunteering Week Celebrations, team Vivanta joined hands to save the Hembadhu Reef on 19th March 2016.
 
The volunteers kick started the activity by assembling at the football ground. A quick briefing was given to all the volunteers on the activity and safety measures by the Learning & Development Manager.
 
The activity was divided into 2 parts on shore and off the shore.
The first part of the activity was to clean the beach area of the reef. All the volunteers got together and cleant the beach. Sharp stones, big and small, debris like waste wood, plastic, metal and other material were removed from the area.
The Second part of the activity was underwater. All the associates then moved to the shallow waters to clean the lagoon, here, a lot of on looking guests also joined the cleaning drive.
 
A dinghy (small boat) was also organised to collect the garbage and other rubbish from the sea. All volunteers were given snorkeling masks, gloves and life jackets. The garbage included plastic bottles, bags, containers, cans weighing approx 800 kgs.
 
Activities like these make all of us recognize the fact that more people need to understand the environment we live in and actively volunteer to take care of it. Guests, who were witnesses to this activity, appreciated the resort’s team effort to ensure clean and safe snorkeling through this team building activity.
 
  Visit to a Science Park Tata Technologies   |  Pune
 
20 Tata Technologies Volunteers took 145 underprivileged children to PCMC Science Park with an aim to introduce them with the various day to day science concepts. This visit gave them an opportunity to understand their academic scientific concepts in a more practical way. The children enjoyed seeing the various innovative experiments. The visit included a 3D show and Tara Mandal globe session. Park fun with funny scientific games was the unforgettable part of their day. The children were enlightened by the knowledge. Tata Technologies volunteers were very excited to help children understand the various machines.
 
  Snacks and Water bottle distribution Tata Technologies   |  Pune
 
Keeping the onset of summers in mind, the volunteers distributed water bottles and snacks to the people living on pavements and small kids at the construction site. Many blessed the volunteers as this was a huge relief from dehydration and the harsh climate.
 
  Visit to an old age home Tata Technologies   |  Pune
 
A team of 40 enthusiastic volunteers from TTL I- sourcing E & E led visited ‘Madhur Bhav Old Age Home ’. The volunteers sang different songs and bhajans. One old lady sang a bhajan for the group. The team interacted with people and had an entertaining session of fun games. The team also donated 1 wheel chair, 2 walker, 2 foldable sticks and 2 tripod sticks .The event ended with the distribution of shawls to the old people.
 
  Bird Feeding Initiative Tata Technologies   |  Pune
 
Tata technologies administration team has taken an initiative that no bird inside the TTL campus should remain hungry or thirsty. The well maintained large amount of trees inside the campus has water bowls hanging so the birds can have water. On the occasion of World Sparrow Day Tata Technologies administration department introduced the bird feeding containers, so the birds would not remain hungry. This small initiative has done wonders to help the birds in their survival.
 
  Restoration of a Children’s Home Ginger Hotels  |  Bhubaneshwar
 
Bhubaneshwar New Extension Project Team and Ginger Hotel Bhubaneshwar Team joined hands together to lend a helping hand in restoring the Children’s Cafeteria at Open Leaning Systems school located at Bhubaneshwar. This Cafeteria was totally beaten down and needed some urgent help. The Ginger Project Team brought in all the expert contractors to do welding works, plumbing works, electrical works, painting works etc and more than 31 volunteers from Ginger Hotel team actively participated to restore this place from 10am to 7pm on a Sunday wanting to give the Divyang children a better dining place prior to the World Down Syndrome Day celebrated on 21st March 2016. The Open Learning Systems School educates more than hundred children’s affected with Down syndrome.
 
  Cleanliness drive Ginger Hotels  |  Pondicherry
 
Ginger hotel Pondicherry team undertook a cleanliness drive of the famous tourist spot in Pondicherry – Serenity Beach. Associates were given handy tips to keep their surroundings clean. During the morning meeting a play on ‘Clean India’ was also enacted to highlight the importance of hygiene and cleanliness. The Hotel Manager, Finance Manager, Sales Executive along with the associates were actively involved in the cleanliness drive. They enthusiastically took up brooms and garbage bags to clean up the dirty area of the beach. The whole drive was quite inspiring and motivating for the team.
 
  Plantation drive JUSCO  |  Jamshedpur
 
A team from JUSCO visited "Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya, Adityapur Saraikela to conduct an awareness session for the students and teachers on the importance of tree plantation. The health and horticulture officers communicated the benefits of tree in real life as far as environmental upgradation is concerned. The support and guidance by the CSR team on these activities for the community and schools had a great impact. The team distributed the plants amongst the students and teachers. They also participated in the massive tree plantation drive inside the school campus.
 
  Awareness session JUSCO  |  Jamshedpur
 
Team JUSCO had a great day at Gitanjali complex, Jamshedpur. More than 50 families participated and displayed their passion towards saving the environment. The team spoke to the residents about the principles of 3 R's Reduce, reuse and recycle. The awareness session was very well accepted by the kids and elders. The team also demonstrated few ways, one can contribute towards greening the earth with minimum effort. The residents were also given fruit trees and tulsi plants. The drive ended with tree plantation inside the complex.
 
  Personal hygiene awareness Rallis India  |  Lote
 
A group of xix volunteers from Rallis India Lote Unit visited Z P School, Gavthan, Lote to conduct a session on Personal Hygiene. 80 students participated in the session. The volunteers conducted a practical session on proper hand washing and explained the importance of cleanliness. The volunteers also provided a hand wash soap to all the students.
 
  Playing games with children Tata Housing  |  Mumbai
 
Tata Housing conducted a sports event at Jhanvi Charitable Trust. 100 children and 15 employees (including Titan and Tata Projects) participated in this event. The day started with a cricket match, wherein 8 kids along with one volunteer formed teams. The volunteers got to see some fine cricketing skills of the children. Rest of the children were involved in musical chairs, kho kho and other games. Every one enjoyed the day. It was a very satisfying and enjoyable day spent with the children.
 
  Visit to Nirmal Hriday Tata Motors  |  Jamshedpur
 
The ‘SHATDAL’ members comprising of retired employees and family members visited Nirmal Hriday-Home for the destitute and differently abled people. The volunteers provided rice, wheat flour, vegetable oil and lactogen for food for the residents and children attending a play school attached to the Centre. The volunteers interacted with the residents and boosted their morale.
 
  Distribution of school furniture Tata Motors  |  Jamshedpur
 
Volunteers from Training Department, Welfare, Employee Relations and Safety along with Apprentices visited Kalapathar School and Bhalukdih village to distribute furniture like desks and benches. They interacted with the children and encouraged them. The children performed three cultural programmes that mesmerized the volunteers.
 
  Visit to a Cheshire Home Tata Motors  |  Jamshedpur
 
Employee Volunteers from Business Excellence Group and Foundry visited the Cheshire home and encouraged the differently abled female residents at the Centre. They pledged to visit the Centre along with their families next time and extend all possible help. During the visit, there was a power cut and one of the volunteers using his connections with district authorities immediately had the power restored and arranged electricians for stabilizing the voltage fluctuation.
 
  Mock interviews for youth Tata Steel   |  Europe
 
Over the 14th, 15th and 17th March nine people from Tata Steel Europe, Shotton each volunteered for three hours to visit local high schools to carry out mock interviews with pupils aged 15-16 about to finish the first stage in their formal education. The pupils are currently applying to either continue studying, start an apprenticeship or find a job. The pupils had to prepare their CV before the interview. After the interview the volunteers provided feedback on the interview and the CV to help these pupils progress in their chosen career path.

A boxing class was organised for the Special Children Bharat Olympics at JRD Sports Complex. A special gym training session and a football training session was also organised at the centre grounds for very young footballers. A music class for young children was organised to hone their skills.
 
  Water conservation rally Tata Steel   |  Jamshedpur
 
A rally on water conservation was organised in the bustees of Kitadih area. The volunteers went door to door and explained the importance of water.
 
  Blood donation camp Tata Steel   |  Jamshedpur
 
A blood donation camp was organised at Kasidih area. Approximately 30 units of blood were collected. Employees and ex – employees of the company came forward for this noble initiative.
 
  Visit to an old age home TSPDL  |  Kolkata
 
A group of volunteers from TSPDL Kolkata visited ‘PREMDAN’, a home for destitute, run by the Missionaries of Charity, Kolkata. The volunteers spent time with them. They also distributed goodies and served food to them.
